Where is the course held?

The course is conducted on private property near Chidlow WA.

How do I get there?

Chidlow is a comfortable 1 hour drive from Perth. We offer a pick-up service from the Midland train station by arrangement.

What kind of accommodation can I expect?

Participants will camp at the nearby Lake Leschenaultia for the 2 nights in tents or swags. We can offer loan tents, swags and/or mats upon request.

What kind of amenities are available on the course?

The venue offers conventional flushing toilets.

Where will my car be parked?

Vehicles remain at Lake Leschenaultia for the duration of the course. The gates are locked at 6pm nightly for your security.

Is there mobile phone reception on the course?

There is reasonable reception with Telstra and Optus at Lake Leschenaultia.

What food arrangements are there?

All food is provided. It is preferred that you do not bring your own as it is a survival course. You will not be tortured or starved in any way however part of the training is to learn to survive on less. You will not be required to put anything into your mouth that you are not comfortable with such as worms or raw meat. If you have special dietary requirements, these should be noted on the confidential medical forms and you will be catered for. There is plenty of drinking water available at the tent site and base camp.

What level of fitness is required?

Participants need a sufficient level of fitness to be able to walk in the bush. There is nothing strenuous about the course, no running or jumping.

What is the minimum age of participants?

Participants need to be a minimum of 16 years of age when accompanied by a parent/guardian.

How many people will be on the course?

There may be between 16-20 participants with 3-4 instructors.

Are pets permitted?

No pets are permitted on the course.

Is smoking and alcohol permitted?

This is a dry (no alcohol) course. However smoking will be permitted if done 5 metres away from the other participants.

What should I bring on the course?

All requirements will be emailed to you upon registration on the course. Generally the requirements are a 2 litre water bottle, small day pack, pen and notepaper and bush walking attire, hats etc.

Will I be required to sign a liability indemnity waiver?

All care is taken to ensure a safe environment however there are still risks involved. Bob Cooper Outback Survival does not accept any liability with regards to these risks. The indemnity waiver forms part of the confidential medical form and is required to be signed prior to the commencement of the course.

Are there snakes and other native animals in the area?

There are many native animals in the area. These all prefer to keep well away from humans. If you see an animal it is best if you do not approach it. All instructors are trained in first aid, should an incident occur however this is extremely unlikely.

What kind of weather can I expect?

The weather is generally mild in Perth. It is suggested that participants dress in layers to ensure adequate temperature control and sun protection. In May the nights and early mornings can be reasonably cold, averaging 7- 20 degrees. It is generally warmer in September/October, 10- 25 degrees.

What are the demographics of the participants?

It fluctuates with each course however generally there is about 30% women on the course.
